buat kumbang..

You will need:

  • Small toy car
  • Toilet or kitchen roll tube
  • Scissors
  • Thin card
  • Cardboard box card
  • Sticky tape
  • Newspaper
  • Pen
  • PVA glue
  • Paint
  • Cotton

To make one of these you'll need a small toy car.

You'll also need to cut a piece of toilet or kitchen roll tube to the same size as the car.
Cut this piece of tube in half, lengthways, to give two arched pieces of card.

One of these will become the creepy crawly's back.
Next cut some wedges, like these, from cardboard box card.
Place the longer wedge on top of the car, like this...
...and the two smaller ones on either side.

When you're happy with the positioning, use tape to stick them in place, but take care to avoid the wheels.
When you place the arched piece of card on top, it should completely hide the car, but the wheels should still move!
Use tape to keep the arched piece of card in place.
Next - the body!

Start by folding up some small pieces of newspaper, and tape them to either end, to smooth the shape of the creepy crawly.
Make the first part of the body by folding some newspaper into a flattish oval shape.

Wrap it over the back two-thirds of the body...
...and use sticky tape to keep it in place.
Next, roll up a small sausage shape of newspaper.

Wrap it around the middle of the body and tape it into place, too.
For the head, use a small bit of scrunched up newspaper.
You should now have something that looks like this!

Next - detailing! If you like, you can check out some real insects by looking in books or on the internet - or you can just make one up!
Draw and cut out six insect legs from thin card.
Put them at equal distances along the body - three on each side - with the two front legs pointing forwards.
When you're happy with the positioning, just tape the legs into place.
Make a pair of pincers from thin card...
...and tape those in place too.
To make a hard shell, place the creepy crawly onto a piece of thin card, and draw around it.

The shape needs to be an arch, and it should be about 1cm wider than the body.
Lift the creepy crawly off the card and tidy up the lines, then divide the shape in half, like this.

Then carefully cut them out.
Stick the two card shapes onto the creepy crawly's back, to make wings.
Next, cut another strip of "shell" from thin card to go around the thorax...
...and an even smaller strip to go around the head.
By now, your creepy crawly should look something like this.
Finish off by painting.

Paint the whole thing with black paint.
Streak in some blue, to give a bug-like sheen!
When the paint has dried, brush a layer of PVA glue over the whole thing - but take care to avoid the wheels.

PVA glue dries clear and shiny and gives a great bug-like effect!
Finish off by attaching a length of cotton to the finished creepy crawly.

The idea is to stretch the cotton around wherever you're sitting, and when the person you want to scare is in position, give the cotton a tug!

Try it yourself!
