Start by blowing up a balloon to about the size of a grapefruit, and rest it in a mug. This will keep it steady while you're working.

Using PVA glue mixed half and half with water, paste on a layer of tissue paper or kitchen roll. The idea is to go all around the balloon in this way, right up to the knot - but no further. Do two or three layers.

When the tissue and glue is dry, you can carefully pop the balloon with some scissors. This will be the egg, but put it aside for a moment because first you need to make the dinosaur.

For claws, make three small sausages of newspaper and tape them together at one end.

Do the same again, and you'll have two claws.

For the head, mould some more newspaper into a sort of pear shape, and bend the thin end over to make a small, beaky nose.

For the bottom jaw, sculpt some newspaper into a rough triangle.

Stick that to the underneath of the head with plenty of tape.

Then, add two newspaper balls to the top of the head for eyes.

Now you have all your parts for the dinosaur, so it's back to the egg... Take some scissors and make jagged cuts around the opening of the balloon to look like a broken shell. Be careful not to make the hole too big. You can always bend the edges slightly just to help get the dinosaur inside.

Then, put the dinosaur inside. Start by taping the claws so that they're poking out of either side of the hole.

When they're secure, put the dinosaur head between them, again, using lots of tape to hold it into position.

Add a layer of PVA glue and tissue paper over the head and claws, to make them really solid.

When you've covered the dinosaur, and it's dry, you'll have something that looks like this. It's now ready for painting...

It's up to you how you paint it. This dinosaur is green with darker shades and the egg is blue with purple spots. When the paint is dry, you can then pick out all the detail with a black pen.

Now all the dinosaur needs is a nest... Cut out a circle of cardboard box card that's about the same size as a dinner plate.

Scrunch up some long newspaper strips and wrap them around the outside of the circle, taping as you go, to build up the edge of the nest.

When you're happy with the shape, give the whole thing a base coat of brown paint.

To make it realistic, paste on some PVA glue and stick on handfuls of hay. It can be quite messy so you might want to put down some newspaper or a flattened-out carrier bag before you begin.

When you've finished you'll be left with something that looks like this.

Place the dinosaur egg in the nest, and you're done.
